Further opening of Northampton's high streets
The Government has approved the reopening of additional businesses from Monday 13 July, including tattoo parlours, nail bars and beauty salons.
This follows relaxed guidance which also recently facilitated the reopening of non-essential retail, the hospitality industry and hairdressers.
In order to ensure these premises are safe for customers and staff, the government have issued guidelines that must be followed in order to protect staff and customers from Covid-19 transmission.
Cllr Anna King, Northampton Borough Council Cabinet member for community safety and engagement, said: "These latest businesses to reopen are all likely to require appointments, which should help them manage social distancing effectively.
"It's great news for those who have been waiting to get back out there and access these services, though there are some limitations.
"Businesses are still prohibited from providing facial treatments such as make-up, eyebrow or eyelash treatments."
Treatments to the body can be carried out if those providing them follow the Government's safety guidance.
Hairdressers and barbers have adapted well to this new way of working, implementing controls such as face visors and making a record of customer contact details to support the Government's Test and Trace initiative.
Further measures which should be put in place include:
- Arrangements for handwashing/sanitizing
- Arrangements for social distancing – restrictions on access to the premises, spacing of treatment chairs etc
- Thorough cleaning and disinfection
